Foundation 3D Projects

This semester I had a great time with my Foundation 3D course.  My instructor was James Porter who is an artist and also works at the Ulrich Museum of Modern Art.  He was very awesome to have as an instructor. He gave great advice on how to create, display, and preserve our works for 3D pieces.  Here are some of the projects that I made in his class.
Some projects were more successful than others but its a learning process.

Drawing II Projects

Well as promised I am posting my Drawing II projects.  My instructor this semester was Levente Sulyok.  He is a fantastic artist and he gave me great advice on how to improve my drawing skills. I would like to take another course from him in the future if at all possible. I have been very fortunate to have had such amazing instructors at W.S.U..  Anyway here is some of the work I accomplished in my Drawing II class.  Hope you enjoy them and if you have any possible techniques or pointers on how I can improve let me know.

Foundation Design 2: Second Half Semester

Final Cover Design
Wow, this semester has been awesome.  What with all the visiting artists, art talks at W.S.U., gallery visits, and Final Friday events I finally have some time to update this blog of mine.

This second half of the semester my class has covered the chroma color chart and conceptual design for a prefab or "green" building.  I chose to make my design that of a "green" building type.  The concept is for an internet cafe 20' x 40' that would also serve as a community building for learning, activities, and local gathering place.  The building would contain several rooms for meeting space, a gaming lounge, an upper level cafe with kitchen and upper level dining, computers available for public use and free WiFi.  Most of the building would use reclaimed materials from disassembled homes and other structures. A small wind turbine would be used to help supply the building with power while returning any unused power back to the grid solar energy might also be incorporated.  LED lighting, T.V.'s,  monitors and green-star appliances would be used to help lower power watt usage. A "green" building built to minimize the carbon footprint that a traditional built building of the same size would leave.

Why an internet cafe when it seems like everyone has one already?  Because it would fulfill a need.  Not everyone has a computer to access the internet and not everyone has space or a place to go to in order to have access.  There is also the fact that there are a generation of people who would not know how to even use a computer or turn one on. The secondary operation of the building would be to help those individuals either by assisting them with computer related correspondence or by teaching the basics of computer and internet usage.

This concept was difficult to start for me my sketches did not initially match the vision that I had in mind. After many days of trying to get the image in my mind to match up with my sketches I decided to use a third tool to help with the design Google SketchUp a 3D modeling program that I downloaded free from Google.  This program allowed me to see the mistakes I had made in my original sketches for my floor plan and also develop a more sound floor plan.  I was able to create variations in the design and see in 3D space what my building if built would look like.  So I copied off some of the 3D images and showed them and the program to my instructor who allowed for me to use this tool to help with the concept design for this project.
Chroma Chart
It has been an awesome semester in my Foundation Design 2 class at Wichita State University.  I'll be posting about my other classes soon.  It takes a lot of time to photograph all that I have made so far so please bear with me if it seems a while between posts.
